Florida law generally imposes liability on the owner of any dog that bites another person, regardless of whether the dog was known to be vicious or not. Additionally, Florida law assumes that the dog owner will have on his/her own property, a posted warning as to the presence of any dog. §767.04. There might also be applicable local laws and ordinances. For instance, in Miami-Dade County, all dog owners must exercise proper care and control over their dogs so they do not become a public nuisance or threat to others. Miami-Dade County Ordinance Sec. 5-20.
